THE body of a man was found after a police search near a river.

The body was recovered after police were called by a member of the public who found items belonging to a man in a Chelmsford road and became concerned for the safety of the missing man.

The cause of death is not yet know but a police spokesman said the death of the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, is not being treated as suspiciously.

Officers were called on Saturday morning and told a bag containing personal papers and a mobile found had been found in Petersfield, off Broomfield Road in Chelmsford.

Police then carried out a search of the surrounding area as they were concerned for the welfare of the man who is believed to have recently moved to Chelmsford from Dorset.

The body was found on a river bank off Chelmer Valley Road just after midday.
A file has now been prepared for the coroner.
