POLICE are hoping the release of a CCTV image of a suspected burglar will lead to his arrest.
Cash was stolen from the Saracen’s Head hotel in the High Street shortly before 4.30am on Wednesday, July 11.
A guest, who had been staying at the premises for several days, was captured on hotel CCTV stealing a three-figure sum from reception, before then leaving the premises.
PC Marcus Baker said: "This man gave hotel staff false details so we’re at a loss at the moment as to who he is.
"We have obtained this very good CCTV image of him and hope that someone can provide us with a name.”
It is thought that the burglar has travelled through Suffolk, Kent, Sussex and London, as well as Essex, since the start of July.
Anyone with information in connection with this burglary is urged to contact investigating officers at Chelmsford police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
