Pensioner on child sex charges

A PENSIONER has appeared in court accused of sexually assaulting a young girl.
George Thorndyke, 78, appeared briefly at Chelmsford Magistrates Court last Friday, accused of indecent assault on a girl under 14, and inciting a girl under 14 to commit an act of gross indecency.
The court was told the incidents are alleged to have taken place between September 1999 and September 2000 when the victim was eight or nine years old.
Thorndyke, of Bruce Road, Writtle, did not enter a plea and will next appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on February 28.
