Award-winning comedian to headline next Comedy Showcase

AN award-winning comedian known for his wild antics on stage is set to headline the next Chelmsford Comedy Showcase.

Scottish comic Phil Kay will be joined by regular Comedy Store headliner Jeff Innocent as well as Radio 4’s Matt Green, Show Me the Funny’s Ellie Taylor and Channel 4 wonder kid Tony Marrese on Thursday February 23 at the Civic Theatre.

Comedy Showcase specialises in bringing the most acclaimed and highest profile acts from the UK comedy circuit to Chelmsford.

Recent shows have featured Sean Hughes, Terry Alderton, Carl Donnelly, Tom Allen, and Tony Law.

Ben Cormack, promoter, said: “Each Comedy Showcase event features a premium selection from the absolute best comics the circuit has to offer.

“They’re all here ready to give you a night of unbelievable hilarity that won’t soon be forgotten.”

Phil Kay first hit the headlines when he won So You Think You’re Funny at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1989.

He was nominated for the Perrier Award in 1993 and went on to win the award for Best Stand Up at the British Comedy Awards in 1994.

Since then he has hosted a number of cult comedy series including, Phil Kay Feels (Channel 4) Next Stop Phil Kay (Channel 4) Edinburgh Nights (BBC1) and The Montreal Festival of Fun (Channel 5).

Kay has recently appeared as a panellist on the BBC show QI and the stand up act on Russell Howard's Good News on BBC3.

His writing credits include regular work with Jonathan Ross, Reeves and Mortimer, and Harry Hill.

The next Comedy Showcase will be at the Civic on Thursday April 12.

Already confirmed acts are Edinburgh Award winner Phil Nichol, and with his unique brand of comedy, Doc Brown.

All tickets are £10 with £7 tickets available for registered, unemployed and full-time students.
