CHELMSFORD’S MP travelled stateside to visit a former President and first lady.
Simon Burns, along with his son Bobby spent a weekend with Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, in Plains, Georgia.
The pair went to church services with the former US President, attended a bible class he teaches and enjoyed a dinner together.
Mr Burns said: “It was a wonderful experience and a great honour to have the opportunity to meet a former President of the United States.
“My son Bobby and I had dinner with the Carters, which was fascinating as we had the opportunity to discuss current affairs and particularly the former President’s views on the Arab Spring, which was particularly interesting given his expertise following his securing of the Camp David Accords.”
