Chelmsford schools GCSE results


IT was a second round of success for Chelmsford schools as the GCSE results were published.

Following on from last week’s A Level results, the town’s two grammar schools performed well.

At KING EDWARD VIth GRAMMAR SCHOOL the results were the second best ever.

Following on from an 85% pass rate last year, it was 81 per cent for grades A* or A .Of particular note were four students who achieved a clean sweep of 13A* grades - Tim Jones, Tim Blore, Nicholas Hilton and James Davey.

Headteacher Tom Sherrington said the school believed the results where students have followed an extremely broad and challenging programme were a testament to the students’ hard work and commitment and the tireless support and expertise of the KEGS staff.

But he said that the school was not an ‘exam factory.’ “We pride ourselves on teaching beyond the exam requirements at GCSE, on not ‘spoon feeding’ our students while also enabling them to engage in a very busy programme of enrichment activities.”

The combined performance of GCSE and A Level results places KEGS among the top schools in the country.

CHELMSFORD COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL for GIRLS saw a pass rate of 74% at A*/A, slightly down on last year’s rate of 77% but 98.3% gained A* to C. Three students gained 11 A* 85 students gained 8 or more A*/A, 58 students gained 10 or more A*/A Year 9 Students gained in ICT GCSE with three quarters getting A* and the other 25% an A One particular star was Year 7 student 12 year old Jemima Man who achieved a GCSE A* in Chinese.

Year 9 student 14 year old Rheanne Sun Wai achieved an A* in French.

Anna Vlasova, 16 years old from Billericay, achieved 12 A*. Anna arrived in the United Kingdom from Russia when she was eight years old.

Nicole Chapman, headteacher, said: “We are delighted with today’s results. CCHS students are highly able and motivated and we are very pleased that they continue to exceed the expected progress at all key stages.

“ Working with highly intelligent like-minded and enthusiastic peers obviously has a very positive effect on their development.

“Our high calibre staff ensure outstanding teaching and learning opportunities for all students who thrive given the broad curriculum and extensive enrichment programme we provide. Excellent pastoral support ensures that our students achieve their full potential. “ EIGHTY two students at NEW HALL Independent School are celebrating passing their GCSEs.

The largest group of year 11 students sat their exams and the results were that all students achieved at least 5A* to C grades with 79% of grades A*, A and B.

Fourteen students got between 9 and 11 GCSE grades at A* or A grades with the top student Shraiya Thapa getting 11A* and full marks on her AS Level English Literature one year early.

Principal Katherine Jeffrey said: “We are very proud of our students. These excellent results are a testament to their ability and hard work and of course to the expertise and dedication of the teachers. We congratulate Year 11 on their achievements.”

AT BOSWELLS School they are also celebrating.

75% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades and 64.5% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics, an increase on last year’s results.

98% of students achieved 5 or more GCSE passes and all students achieved at least one pass grade.

The average points score (per examination) per student is also up on last year’s results, reflecting the success that students at all levels of ability have achieved.

Congratulations go to all our students on their examination success. Students at all levels of ability have worked hard and met, and in many cases exceeded, their targets with Holly Aiked, Lauren Hornsey, Ben Perkins and Eleanor Scott getting A*/A grades across the board.

Headteacher David Crowe is extremely proud of the success and hard work of students and staff.

He said: “GCSE success is achieved as a result of continued hard work on the part of students and staff. Our students have succeeded as a result of their ability and determination and have attained the high academic standards which they thoroughly deserve. Students of all abilities have met and surpassed their targets.”

At MOULSHAM High School and Humanities College 71% of the student achieved five higher grades at GCSE and 60% gained five higher grades including English and Maths.

Headteacher Dr. Chris Nicholls said: "I am delighted with our results; they show a pleasing improvement from last year. We hoped that this year group would do well and the students have not let us down."

HYLANDS School reported that 60% of the year 11 achieved five A to C grades with many students achieving their expected grades or better and have secured a place in the sixth form.

The science department did particularly well doubling the number of A* to C grades from last year.

A student who did particularly well was Sam Parker who achieved 7A* and 4A grades.

ST JOHN PAYNE has broken records again.

Of the 187 entries the overall pass rate was 99.47% .Those achieving 5A* to C was 73.9%.

Three pupils Louise Livings, SarahMartinez and Belinda Smith all achieved 9A* grades each.

Headteacher Frank McEvoy said: “Without the selfless support and dedication by my staff and the very hard work by our year 11 pupils these results would not have been possible.

“In particular I am impressed by the standard of our students A*/A grades and their average point score of 416.55. Well done.”

Roger Hunton the Headteacher of GREAT BADDOW HIGH SCHOOL said he was very pleased with their GCSE Results which were an improvement on last year’s very good results. In particular the results for English, Maths, PE and Science were all very good.

Top students were Emma Willey with 10A* and 1A, Billy Radford 9A* and 1A, Luke Ridgewell 8* and 3A and Jack Davine 7A* and 3 A.

CHELMER VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL has also performed well with headteacher David Franklin praising, pupils, parents and staff.

He said: “Once again I am very pleased with our GCSE results.

“Provisionally 73% of our students achieved five or more GCSE subjects at grades A*-C. Also 65% of our students achieved five or more GCSE subjects including English and Maths at the high grades.

“A significant number of students performed exceptionally well achieving 10 or more subjects at grades A or A*.

“ Top performer was Rebecca Stephens who achieved grades A* in all her 13 subjects , the highest GCSE achievement in the school’s history.

“ Results like these can only be achieved through the hard work of the students, the support of parents and high quality teaching from the staff.”

At SANDON SCHOOL they are celebrating the best results in the school’s history. The percentage of students achieving 5 or more grade A* to C was 68 with the percentage achieving one of more Grade A* to G at 97. The pass rate for grades A* to C was 73% Ekaterina Frantsuzova was the top performing student with 10A* and 3As.

Headteacher Jo Wincott said: “These are the hgighest GCSE results in the school’s history and we are all delighted with our students’ success.

“They demonstarte that we continue to go from strength to strength. The results reflect the students’ hard work and conscientious attitude towards their studies.”
