Final decision taken to close St Peter's College


ST Peter’s College in Chelmsford will close.

The final decision to close the secondary school was made by Essex County Council’s cabinet member for education Stephen Castle last week.

The school has experienced declining pupil numbers. It was in special measures in September 2005 but taken out on March 2007 after being judged satisfactory but parental choice saw parents choosing to send their children to other schools. .

The school will close in August 2011 and stop taking year 7 and year 12 pupils from September 2010. Existing pupils will be transferred to either Hylands School or Chelmer Valley.

It is proposed to develop a state of the art vocational centre on the St Peter’s site .
