Police warning over more car thefts

ONCE again car key crime has hit an area of Chelmsford.

Detectives are appealing for information about two burglaries that occurred off Arnold Way, in Galleywood.

Overnight on June 16 to 17, burglars broke into a property in Vale End and stole two sets of car keys.

They were used to drive away a black Volkswagen Golf and a black BMW 525D, containing various items including golf clubs and baby seats.

Five days later, overnight on June 22 to 23, entry was forced through a secure door to a house in Sharpington Close and a set of car keys, along with computer equipment including a black Toshiba laptop and a PlayStation, were stolen.

The burglars then used the keys to drive away a grey BMW 320DM Sport.

The total value of the cars and other items stolen is around £15,000, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wheeler said: “Please ensure you keep your keys somewhere safe and out of sight. Also, do not leave cash, bags and wallets lying around, and keep all accessible doors and window closed and locked.

“If you have uPVC doors, please ensure you lock the door with the key – just pulling up the handle does not deadlock the door. If you have a garage, please try to lock your vehicle away safely inside it.”

The investigating officer for these two burglaries is Det Con Jeanine Atkins-Calver, of Chelmsford CID, who can be contacted on 0300 3334444.
