THE Princess Royal came to Chelmsford on Tuesday to celebrate the first anniversary of the Catch 22 young person’s charity.
A patron of the organisation, which helps young people out of difficult situations, she visited Shire Hall to talk about its work and watch a celebration show marking the first year.
Catch 22, a national charity, was formed on July 1 last year when the existing charities of Rainer and Crime Concern joined together.
Selena Todd, area manager in Essex, said: “We have about 130 people coming along from all over the county.
“We chose Chelmsford because it is central and we do a lot of work with Essex County Council and we wanted their representatives to be able to come along.”
One of the girls attending was 15-year-old Jasmin, who has been involved with the charity for the past two years.
She was having trouble coping at home after her father was diagnosed with cancer and the pressure it put on the family.
Jasmin, who sang before the princess, said: “The charity was there to be able to talk to and they would listen. They helped me cope with my anger and now I help others.”
