Theatre train gets going

A CHELMSFORD theatre group is taking the train to perform in London.

But one of its members is going even further - to Russia.

Theatre Train runs classes at St Peter’s College in Chelmsford for youngsters aged between six and 18 in drama, dance and singing.

On June 7 around 50 students will be heading off to Sadlers Wells Theatre in London to take part in a Rhythm and Bluesshow which will celebrate 50 years of Motown Music and tells the story of the Blues Brothers.

Michelle Williamson, a drama teacher at the centre, said they would be joining with seven other Theatre Train centres to perform the show.

“Everyone is looking forward to it very much.”

One of those taking part is 14 year old Farrah Anderson from Chelmsford who is a pupil at Chelmsford County High School for Girls.

She is one of 12 that have been chosen out of 4,000 Theatre Train students in the country to go to Moscow in July .

She will be attending the International Youth Theatre Forum from July 1 to 14 and taking part in performances and workshops.

Farrah said: “ Going to Russia this summer is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to it very much.”

But before she heads off, she will be singing a solo at the June 7 show.

Anyone who wants to know more about the classes at St Peter’s College can have a free trial on a Saturday morning between 10.30am and 1.30pm.
