THE roof of a derelict factory in Chelmsford town centre exploded into flames.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at around 2pm on Thursday March 13, where a fire had started at the disused factory.
The building, which had a roof made of asbestos, was soon 100 per cent alight.
Four fire vehicles and an aerial ladder platform attended the scene to battle the flames, making sure the asbestos was damp so it did not endanger members of the public.
By 3.45pm the fire crews had gained control of the flames and continued to damp down the fire.
