School opens £800,000 music centre

A CHELMSFORD school unveiled its brand-new £800,000 music centre.

Chelmsford County High School for Girls, on Broomfield Road, Chelmsford, opened its new music centre this Monday.

Dame Evelyn Glennie, the world-famous composer and percussionist, cut the ribbon and officially opened the centre in the afternoon, giving a speech and short performance in the new building.

Work began on the facility last Easter, which houses two teaching rooms, five group practise rooms, an ensemble room, a recording studio and a staff office.

Headteacher Nicole Chapman, said: "The opening of our music centre marks the culmination of several years continued hard work from a huge number of people.

"We're hugely grateful to our parents for their ongoing generous support, which now means we have a fantastic facility that will enhance our girls' musical development."
