Colenzo’s Restaurant & Lounge in Chelmsford has closed - shortly after the closure of the Southend location in October.

The restaurant has admitted that since April 2018 business has not been consistent and the hospitality industry has proven to be difficult in the current economic climate which has also been seen with the closure of a number of other restaurant brands recently.

Adding, there are a number of large chain restaurants in Chelmsford which has made it very difficult for an independent restaurant such as Colenzo’s to compete in the industry.

A spokesman said: "The location to which the restaurant is sited has also proven very difficult to obtain diners.

"Unfortunately, the level of business which was hoped for did not materialise and after a large investment and the return not reaching expectations, Catering Management Services Ltd. has decided that the best course of action at this moment in time is to close the restaurant for business.

"All outstanding reservations will be contacted and any diners who have paid deposits will receive a full refund in due course.

"Any Groupon vouchers which have been purchased for Colenzo’s Restaurant and Lounge we would advise that Groupon are contacted for further assistance. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to take this opportunity to thank those who did dine with us and for the support of regular visitors. Colenzo’s Restaurant & Lounge may emerge again in the future in new locations but for now both Chelmsford and Southend restaurants are now closed."
