Police are appealing to members of the public after a member of rail staff was assaulted by man travelling on a child ticket.

Officers investigating the staff assault at Leigh station are releasing CCTV images in connection with the incident.

At approximately 6.30pm on September 14, a man purchased a ticket and went to pass through the barriers.

A member of staff assisted the man and then realised he had purchased a child ticket, despite clearly not being a child.

The man then attempted to barge through the barriers, however the member of staff blocked him, instructing him to buy the proper ticket.

The man’s aggression increased and he eventually grabbed the member of staff’s neck whilst pushing through the ticket barrier. He then boards a London bound train.

Officers believe the man shown in this CCTV image may have information which could help them investigate.
