A murder investigation has been launched after a man dies from injuries believed to have been sustained in an assault in South Ockendon.
One witness, who wished not to be named, said: "I drove past the park and saw a young lad with blood on his face on the floor and paramedics had a defibrillator out."
The police arrived after they were called by the ambulance service and found a man to be injured near Dilkes Park in Foyle Drive ar around 3pm today.
It is believed the victim was assaulted by two men who made off from the scene in a car, described as silver or light-coloured.
Sadly he died at the scene.
Police have cordoned off the area to allow investigations to take place.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Pasmore, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “This was a brazen assault in broad daylight in busy part of South Ockendon.
“There would have been a lot of people around at the time of the attack and I believe there would have been a number of people who saw what happened.
“If you saw anything or have any videos or photos of the incident I need you to contact my team.
“I also believe this was a targeted attack and there is no risk to the wider public.”
