Two people have been arrested after two supermarkets in Ingatestone were burgaled, one of which had a four-figure sum of cash stolen from it.

At around 3.15pm on Thursday, September 14, a man entered the staff area at the Budgens store on High Street and stole a number of personal items from staff members’ bags and lockers.

The following week on Saturday, September 23, a man entered the staff area at The Co-op Food Store, which is also on High Street, at around 6.30pm and stole a four-figure sum of cash from the administration office.

A 40-year-old man and 43-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The man was charged with burglary and is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 13. However, the woman was released without charge.
