An Indian restaurant in Great Baddow has had its licence revoked after two individuals were found to be illegally working on the premises.

The Baddow Tandoori, in Church Street, were called before a Licensing Sub-Committee today to have their licence reviewed after Essex Police submitted an application.

The application was submitted on the grounds that the curry house had breached one of the four licesning objectives - the prevention of crime and disorder.

Concerns came after a Licensing Officer, Nigel Dermott, along with Immigration Officers inspected the premises on June 14 this year and found there to be two individuals working on the premises without permits.

After entering the premises, the officers found one man, from Myanmar, in the kitchen with stains on his hand that were "conducive to cooking". He was asked to provide his registration card and it showed that he was prohibited to work in the UK.

Upon further inspection, they found a man hiding in a cupboard upstairs and he was arrested after they discovered he had overstayed his student visa.

Now, the Baddow Tandoori, once rated as one of the ten best curry houses in Chelmsford has had its licence revoked which means they cannot operate from this point.

The restaurant has the right to appeal this decision.
