CAMPAIGNERS have collected more than one thousand signatures against plans in create a bus lane in a very busy city road.

Essex County Council has drawn up the proposal as part of a scheme to improve infrastructure in the city.

A £15 million package of schemes to transform transport and travel within Chelmsford for decades to come has been published.

Residents are being urged to give their views on the Chelmsford City Growth Package containing 30 proposed schemes to help improve road, cycle, bus and walking infrastructure across Chelmsford with a consultation.

But Maxine Jones, 49, of Baddow Road who is behind the petition against the plans said it is ridiculous.

She added: “I believe this the county council is cutting off residents and causing them longer journeys into the city centre.

“The council has claimed part of these plans are about cutting pollution but I do not believe this sit her case.

“I am not against buses or bus lanes but it will not work in Baddow Road. Other residents both in the road and other areas of the village are up in arms about this.”

Cllr Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader of Essex County Council, said: “It’s great to see residents engaging with the consultation on the Chelmsford City Growth Package. I would urge residents to make sure they share their views on the 30 proposed schemes which make up the package by visiting the website.”
