A mum claims she was left badly burnt after an air hostess knocked a cup of boiling hot tea over her leg.

Val Tredget, 51, was sat between her sisters on a Ryanair flight to Budapest when the incident allegedly happened.

The nurse, of Chelmsford, said she was left in agony and criticised the airline for their “shambolic” attempts at first aid that has now left her badly scarred.

Ms Tredget said: “Despite my pointing out that it was already blistering, the skin was peeling off and when asking for cold water, the attendant just gave me a handful of paper towels and said here use them all, by the time she gave me a dressing and then some ice the damage was done.”

A Ryanair spokesman said: “These claims are untrue.

"All hot drinks on board Ryanair flights are served in fully sealed cups with lids securely fixed before being served to customers, and our crew have confirmed this procedure was correctly followed in this case.

"The customer in question received first aid from our cabin crew including ice, healing gels and a dressing, and declined the crew’s offer of further medical assistance, or being met on arrival by paramedics in Budapest."

The mother-of-two is hoping her recent social media presence will stop this from happening to anyone else.

Ms Tredget said: “My main aim in all of this is to stop it happening to other people by using sealed solid travel mugs on flights. The first aid listed was given but far too late with no instant first aid of cold water.

“How many other people are treated like this in correspondence with Ryanair that you're not given the opportunity to respond to because they feel too small to fight the blatant lies of a large company. It's not right and they have to stop getting away with this.”
