The next generation of Essex Police officers shaved their heads to raise money for the charity, Solving Kids’ Cancer.

Ten student officers from Essex Police College’s G2 intake shaved their heads on June 19 in order to raise money for Jacob Jones, a 4-year-old boy with neuroblastoma.

The team has raised £845 on its fundraising page so far and raised more during the event with Jacob’s grandparents attending to watch.

The event took place at the Essex Police College, Chelmsford, and after seeing the students taking part, professional assessment Sergeant Gary Derrick decided to take part himself and raised £50 after shaving his head.

Jacob has been fighting neuroblastoma with an aggressive treatment regime since he was two years old but sadly he relapsed in April 2016 and is undergoing more treatment.

His immunotherapy and treatment in the UK will end in July.

His family are appealing for £192,000 to cover the costs of accessing a trial treatment, the associated costs and a contingency for unforeseen complications.
