CHELMSFORD joined the rest of the UK to honour the armed forces for Armed Forces Day.

Local authorities across the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man will be raising specially commissioned Armed Forces Day Flags in unison on Monday June 19 in a universal display of support, honouring Britain’s Armed Forces, past, present and future.

In Chelmsford, the flag will be raised on Chelmsford City Council’s flag pole at the Civic Centre.

The service will began at 10am at the War Memorial on Duke Street, Chelmsford.

Duncan Lumley,. mayor of the city said a few words and read a prayer which was followed by the flag being raised.

Other dignitaries included representatives from British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association. The flag will fly until Monday June 26.
