CHELMFORD’S MP has said that Britain will leave the EU with or with out a trade deal.

Sir Simon Burns MP has made the claims after reports that Theresa May had threatened to trigger the Brexit process without negotiating trade deals.

However, it has been reported that the Prime Minister has now backed away from the threats.

Sir Simon said the Government must continue do what the British people asked for in last June’s referendum.

He added: “Theresa May is working hard to get the best deal for Britain, but in theory if we do not get trade deals we will still be leaving the E U.

“That being said, I am confident the Government will get the best deal for Britain in terms of trade negotiations.

“The trade deals the Government is looking to make will be with other countries outside of the EU, including America.

“I understand the White House is very keen to create a trade deal and the country is a massive market for the UK.”

Mr Burns said trade deals will be very important to Britain as we leave the EU.

He added: “The Government is working hard to ensure that, once we are in a legal position to do so, we can make those all important deals with the countries we want to work with.

“We must remember it is so important that the Government follows the wishes of the British people after that vote, and Theresa May is doing just that.

“I voted to remain, myself, but I know some of my constituents and in Chelmsford did vote to leave with the majority of the country.”
