A CHARITY football team for disabled people has been given a gift of hundreds of pounds by a department store.
City of Chelmsford Mencap received a cheque for £462 from John Lewis Chelmsford this week.
The retailer selected the charity’s football club to be a beneficiary of their charitable giving scheme, Community Matters.
Every three months each branch of John Lewis selects three community groups to help.
Customers then decide how much each nominated group receives by using tokens to vote for the organisation they’d like to support.
City Mencap FC was established in 2013, with the aim of giving disabled people in Chelmsford an opportunity to play football.
Run entirely by volunteers, and totally self-funding, the team trains at Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre.
