VOLUNTEERS and staff from Chelmsford City Council worked together to tidy up South Woodham Ferrers.

The clean-up was part of the Council’s Nice programme, which encourages residents to take pride in the areas they live in.

A large area was covered, including Scholar’s Walk, Ferrers Road and two industrial estates - Cutlers Road and Bancroft.

Among the 15 bags of retrieved rubbish were a football, a parking sign, a skateboard and a car tyre.

Janette Potter, councillor for waste management and recycling, said: “There is always a lovely atmosphere at Nice events.

“They are about making a difference to your local neighbourhood, but they are also good fun and a chance to get active with like-minded people.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all the hard-working people who took part and supported us at this clean-up, and to McDonald’s for kindly providing free refreshments afterwards.”

The volunteers welcome those who care about their area.
