A MAN who robbed a convenience shop has been jailed for five years.

Eammon Kenevan, 21, entered The Co-operative Food Store in Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, 10.15pm on January 24 and went to the tills to buy a chocolate bar.

But as the cashier scanned it, he took out a knife and demanded money.

When she said she could not open the tills, he demanded another staff member open them.

He grabbed about £100 in cash before running off.

Kenevan’s fingerprints were found on the chocolate bar and the incident was captured on CCTV.

He was arrested the following day and charged with robbery, threatening a person with a blade in a public place and stealing a knife.

Kenevan, unemployed, of New Writtle Street, Chelmsford, was also charged with a burglary in which a television was stolen from an address in New Writtle Street on December 21 last year.

He admitted the robbery and burglary during police interview and admitted the two charges when he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on February 17.

He denied the other two charges and the judge ordered for them to lie on file.

Kenevan was sentenced on Friday March 17 to 32 months for robbery and 28 months for burglary, to run consecutively.
