Villagers are being asked for ideas on how to make the most of their library.

Two brainstorming workshops are to be held to discuss how best to use the space made available when the Post Office moved from Writtle library to the nearby Co-op.

The county council wants residents to develop their own ideas for events and activities they can run.

Cllr Anne Brown, the Cabinet Member responsible for libraries, said: “The ‘Writtle Do’ is all about helping new ideas flourish in the village.

“Essex County Council is fully committed to this valued community resource, so we are very keen to get the public’s help to make the most of the library’s underused space.

“This is an opportunity to make new and exciting things happen, so come along and share your ideas and we can work together to turn them into a reality.”

The library will host two workshops, next Monday and on Monday, March 13, both from 6pm until 9pm.

Essex County Council has run similar sessions in other libraries across the county, where residents dreamed up a host of ideas, including @BillericayCine, the award-winning community cinema in Billericay library, seated exercise classes in Pitsea and community arts projects in Harwich.

If you have an idea that requires space to happen, you can register in advance at https://attending.io/events/writtle-do and follow the process on Facebook or Twitter @writtledo.

If you cannot attend either of the workshops, people are encouraged to share their ideas by popping into the library or emailing writtledo@gmail.com.

Writtle library is also looking for volunteers to help out for a few hours a week. Volunteers will spend their time supporting library staff by welcoming and supporting customers, dealing with stock and opening and closing the building. For more information or to apply, email clerk@writtlepc.com
