A GREAT-GRANDFATHER aged in his 70’s died after suffering a suspected heart attack in a Chelmsford pub.
The incident happened in the Ivory Peg Wetherspoons, New London Road yesterday afternoon (December 8).
Staff and ambulance crews tried to resuscitate him, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman for the pub, which closed its doors until the following morning, praised staff for attempting to resuscitate the man.
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "We can confirm that the pub closed at 5.30pm today and will reopen in the morning.
"A customer had a heart attack in the pub. Staff performed CPR on the customer, following advice from paramedics over the phone and at the same time paramedics were called to the pub.
A spokesman for East of England Ambulance, said: “We were called just before 4.30pm to a report of a man who had collapsed and was not breathing.
“We sent two ambulance officers and an ambulance to the scene.
“They arrived in seven minutes where the man in his late 70’s was in cardiac arrest.”
He added police were called as the death happened in a public place.
