A CAMPAIGN has been launched to help job seekers find new careers in the care sector.

There are more than 450 vacancies in the sector across Essex each month, with each offering rewarding opportunities.

Essex County Council has launched the Gift of Care campaign to help recruit more people into the roles.

People beginning or considering changing their careers and those looking for additional or part-time work are invited to attend recruitment events.

These will include more than 25 care provider representatives, information about apprenticeships and training and one to one support. The first event will take place on Tuesday between noon and 2.30pm at the Council Chamber in the Chelmsford Civic Centre, in Duke Street, Chelmsford.

The second will run between 11am and 1.30pm on Tuesday, December 6, at the St Georges Suite, in the Basildon Centre, in St Martin’s Place, Basildon.

More events will be held in the New Year.

Skills in demand include care-giving, home management, social work, care planning, cleaning, working with dementia and mental health, preparing meals and senior care.

Dick Madden, county councillor responsible fr adults and children, said: “Caring for others is one of the most important and rewarding things you can do and there are hundreds of people across the county – maybe even in your own family – needing help in their daily lives or specialist support.”

Kevin Bentley, Essex County Council’s deputy leader and councillor responsible for economic growth, said: “Our elderly population is growing so the demand for caring people to work in this sector is only going to increase.

“If you could help and support others or you already have experience of caring, at home or professionally, please consider giving the gift of care this Christmas.”
