CHELMSFORD pre-schools received glowing reports following an education watchdog’s latest round of inspections.

Perryfields Infant School, in Lawn Lane, and the YMCA child care club in Trinity Road Primary, Trinity Road, were labelled “Good” by Ofsted inspectors after visits by inspectors.

The news will be especially welcomed by the YMCA club, which bolstered its ranking from “Requires Improvement”.

Ruth Brock, an Ofsted Inspector who visited Perryfields, said of the school: “Perryfields Infant School remains a very exciting place for children to learn.

“It is underpinned by the school’s strong ethos and core values.

“(The) effective leadership is highly respected by staff, parents and governors. This contributes to the positive and purposeful relationships seen across the school.

“Much has been achieved since the

 previous inspection.”

She also praised the school after noting 50 per cent of pupils are significantly above the national average in reading, writing and maths.

Amanda Reid, headteacher, was also applauded for her passion and vision in guiding her staff.

Ms Brock added: “Pupils are enthusiastic, hard-working, confident and articulate. They talk with pride about their work and share their thinking with other pupils.”

Tina Mason, the Ofsted inspector who visited the YMCA club voiced similar praise, and commended staff for the improvements they had made.

In its two previous inspections, carried out in 2014 and 2012, inspectors told staff to brush up on teaching consistencies and forward planning to better prepare children for primary education.

Speaking after the latest inspection, Ms Mason said: “The manager and staff team have successfully addressed actions and recommendations raised at the last inspection.

“They are committed to making improvements in the setting.

“Interactions between staff and children are good. Staff provide children with a varied selection of fun and interesting activities, which helps them to remain engaged, motivated and focused.”
