MUSIC icon Wilko Johnson has been awarded an honorary degree by an Essex university.
Wilko, guitarist for Seventies Canvey pub rockers Dr Feelgood, received an honorary doctor of arts from Anglia Ruskin University, which has campuses in Chelmsford and Cambridge.
Professor Ian Martin, university vice-chancellor, who handed out the award, said: “Wilko Johnson exemplifies the pioneering creativity, talent, drive and dedication required to achieve success in this most demanding of professions.
“As an iconic East Anglian, he will be an inspirational role model for all our students, and of course, particularly students of music.”
Rock star, producer and actress Suzi Quatro was also recognised, with an honorary doctor of music award, during the graduation ceremony in Cambridge today.
