A SCHOOL has issued a warning to parents after a young girl was left “shaken” after a wolf whistling stranger followed her.

The sixth form student was on her way to Boswell’s School, along Pump Lane, when a male cyclist wolf-whistled, then turned around at the end of the path and approached her on Friday (September 30).

The girl, who hid in a bush, was left upset but unharmed following the ordeal – the incident has been reported to police.

Since then, the school has written to parents asking them to ensure their child is safe, and urging children to walk in pairs.

Matt Fletcher, director of the sixth form at Boswell’s insisted parents shouldn’t be worried but should remain vigilant.

The letter, which a parent showed to the Weekly News, said: “We have been informed by a Sixth Form student that she was followed by a male cyclist along Pump Lane on Friday at approximately 7.30am.

"Now seems an appropriate time to remind you, once again, of the importance of travelling to and from school safely and to report any incidents to the police or school if your child is approached in any untoward manner.

"On the journey to and from school our advice would be that students should travel with at least one other person if they cycle or walk in order to ensure their safety."

Mr Fletcher added: “She was on her way to school, she wasn’t dressed in a school uniformed, she was in casual clothes as she’s a sixth former.

“The guy may have thought she was older than she is.

“He just wolf whistled as he rode past, then he cycled around a roundabout, he may not have even been riding back towards her.

“She dived in a bush and understandably was a bit shaken.”
