An interactive workshop at Anglia Ruskin University will allow students to use digital technology and connectivity to design a future Essex that is smart, connected and people-focused.

The My Smarter City event is open to youngsters aged between 14 and 18 who are interested in how digital technology and connectivity can improve how we live, work and play.

Several local companies involved in medicine, space, transport, ICT and many other areas will exhibit at the event. Representatives from these businesses, as well as recent graduates, will be on hand to speak to pupils and teachers about career prospects.

The event is being put on by Chelmsford Science and Engineering Society in partnership with Anglia Ruskin and Essex County Council. It will take place from 4pm until 7pm on Thursday, October 6, at Anglia Ruskin’s Postgraduate Medical Institute on the Chelmsford campus.

Fiona Bodle, Assistant Director for Enterprise and Innovation at Anglia Ruskin, said: “In recent years, digital technologies have completely transformed the way we interact with our surroundings. This fun and educational event will allow teenagers the chance to use this increased connectivity to design and plan a smarter Essex.”

The event is free, but places must be booked for school groups. See www.chelmsfordses.org.uk/my-smarter-essex for booking details.
