GENEROUS walkers gave up their time to raise money for charity.

The Summer Solstice Stride took place on Thursday June 16 in and around Chelmsford.

Over 150 walkers joined the event and raised £690.55 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Age UK Essex.

The event was held by Heart and Sole a healthy walking initiative supported by Chelsmford City Council.

Friends and families made the most of one of the longest days of the year by heading off on 5km and 10km routes around Chelmsford.

Heart and Sole Volunteer Walk Leaders, Chelmsford Youth Cycling Club and CTC Volunteer Cycle Stewards gave their evening to help the event run smoothly and guide everyone around the route.

The walk began at Anglia Ruskin University, and walkers made their way along the river through Central and Admirals Parks towards Writtle and back.

Anglia Ruskin University and Heart and Sole donated refreshments and snacks following the walk.
