THE Fling Festival is set to be headlined by an indie band who have sold more than a million records to date.

Turin Brakes, who hail from Balham in South West London, will be showing off their musical talent when they take to the stage at Chelmsford's very own adult festival.

The band was formed in 1999 by childhood friends Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian, who have been joined by long term collaborators Rob Allum and Eddie Myer.

They signed to French label Source in 2000 and released their Mercury Music Prize nominated debut album The Optimist in 2001, which was followed by Ether Song in 2003 which featured the top 5 hit single Pain Killer (Summer Rain).

The band is still going strong after 16 years and released their new album Lost Property in January, which hit the Top 30 on release and saw two singles from the album Keep Me Around and Save You play on BBC Radio 2.

Festival Director Andy Winmill said: "We are very pleased to announce that our headliners for 2016 will be Turin Brakes.

"We feel they perfectly fit the profile of the Fling and we were absolutely delighted when they agreed to play."

The Fling Festival, which feature live music, cabaret and comedy, will take place on Saturday, July 2 from 12 noon to 11pm in Hylands Park. The Fling Festival is produced by Chelmsford City Council Cultural Events Team and is supported by Chelmsford Weekly News, Essex and Suffolk Water, First Buses, Dancing Giraffe, Printing Place and Chelmsford City Times.
