A SCHOOLGIRL gave up her favourite sweet treats to raise money for Diabetes UK.
Esther Hemmings, 11, of Chelmsford, decided to have a seven day sugar fast to raise money for the charity after being inspired by her granddad who has the condition.
The Kings Road Primary School pupil said: "I chose Diabetes UK, because my grandad has diabetes, and I wanted to help him and help other people like him.
"I now know how hard it must be to be a child with diabetes, because most children like sweets and chocolate.
"They can't have the same privileges as other children."
She has raised £70 so far. Donate at: justgiving.com/fundraising/Esther-Hemmings
