I'VE always had dreams of being a musical star, of striding across a West End stage belting out a classic musical number.

Sadly, although I can hold a tune, my dancing often resembles that of someone's drunken auntie at a wedding, even when I'm stone cold sober, meaning my dream of seeing my name in lights in the West End have remained exactly that; a dream.

So you can imagine my excitement when SuperBreak, which organises theatre trips and hotel breaks, gave me the chance to not only watch the new Carole King musical, Beautiful, but to also meet the cast and go up on stage myself.

After hopping on a train from Chelmsford to London we checked in at the 4* Cavendish Hotel where we would be staying for the night.

The plush room and friendly but not intrusive staff meant we had an easy start to our day and didn't have to battle the rush hour crowds to or from the theatre - something which I find can put a spoil a nice evening out at the theatre.

On our arrival at the Aldwych Theatre we were introduced to Suzanne Thomas, the theatre's resident choreographer, and taught the harmonies and dance moves to the famous hit, the Locomotion.

Written by Carole King and her former husband Gerry Goffin in 1962, the song is one of the show's best dance numbers.

While I picked up the harmonies and the dance moves fairly quickly, putting them together at the same time was another story!

After a few rehearsals it was time for us to all shine and perform to a small audience alongside cast members Hannah Jay-Allan, 23, Jammy Kasongo, 25, and Rosie Heath, 27.

We managed to keep up but I was amazed by the incredible energy each of the professionals was able to bring to the dance as, even though I'd only been practicing for about half an hour, I was shattered!

It was also terrifying to see the amount of seats in the theatre from the stage - there were so many and I am not sure I'd be able to do that night after night.

I can't imagine having to keep the energy and enthusiasm up for a whole show but, when we returned to our seats to watch the evening performance, we were not disappointed as each cast member sung their hearts out and danced their socks off.

Carole King's songs were all performed with passion and skill and I would highly recommend the show to anyone who has ever loved her songs, which include Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Take Good Care of my Baby and You’ve Got a Friend.

Book a top price seats for the show and and a night at the Cavendish London Hotel from £190.
