A COMMUNITY choir and characters from Aladdin will help to keep the crowd entertained on Sunday.

Funky Voices community choir, which runs large singing groups across Essex and Suffolk, will be performing on stage during the switchon event.

Choir director Sandra Colston said: “Funky Voices are delighted to be back to perform for the Chelmsford Christmas Lights again this year.

“After an amazing couple of weeks surrouding our BBC Children in Need single ‘Stop’ and with Christmas right around the corner, this has been a very exciting time for us!

“We have always loved performing at the Chelmsford lights and we are really looking forward to performing again this year.”

Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and the magical Genie from the Chelmsford Civic Theatre’s Christmas pantomime will be taking to the streets of Chelmsford to make friends with members of the public, hand out pantomime flags and help to switch on the lights.

They will be urging families to book their tickets fast, as last year’s pantomime had sold out by its opening night.

This year’s show will run from December 2 to January 3.

Tickets, priced from £21, are available now from chelmsford.gov.uk/aladdin
