YOUNGSTERS will be performing their hearts out on stage in the High Street during the Christmas in Chelmsford event.

The teenagers, aged between 15 and 19, will be singing, playing musical instruments and using skills they have learned during Sound Sessions at Chelmsford’s YMCA.

Andy Drake, the chief executive of Chelmsford and Colchester’s YMCA, said: “The Sound Sessions project teaches youngsters about singing, how to play guitars or other instruments, how to put together set lists, but is also about developing confidence.

“Sometimes people come with no musical ability at all but learn how to play and about developing as a person.

"Some of these youngsters have played in front of about 150 people before, but will now perform in front of about 3,000, so they are very excited and nervous but they are looking forward to it.

“I think they have realised most of the people watching will be rooting for them and this is a lovely community event where everyone comes together and everyone will want them to do well.”
