A festival of discover is returning to Chelmsford this year in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disability.

The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disability (IDPwD) is acknowledged each year on 3 December.

Celebrated globally, the IDPwD aims to promote a positive image of people with disabilities through celebrating their achievements and providing an understanding of disability issues.

The Discovery Festival shares these aims and will run from Thursday, December 3, to Friday, December 4, with the hub of activity based in High Chelmer Shopping Centre.

A central information stand located in High Chelmer Shopping Centre will provide the opportunity to discover more about a wide variety of disabilities along with the organisations and support groups in Chelmsford and the surrounding area… but the journey of discovery doesn’t have to end there!

Throughout the week there will be a range of activities and sessions taking place including Dementia Friends session and a chance to experience Chelmsford Libraries Sensory Wall.

Chelmsford City Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, Councillor Nicolette Chambers, said: “This event is a great opportunity for our city’s residents to learn about the impact of living with a disability and the incredible range of support services available in our area; enabling all attendees to learn something new about disability.”
