Update October 19

Police are now able to name the woman who died following a collision on the A131 between Chelmsford and Great Leighs.

Florance Vant, 73, of Roxwell, was the driver of a red Ford Focus which was involved in a collision with an orange BMW and a brown Honda on the evening of Monday, October 12.

She sadly died shortly after arriving at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

A woman has died following a collision involving three vehicles which happened on the A131 between Chelmsford and Great Leighs.

The collision happened just after 8.10pm last night, Monday, October 12, on the A131 at the junction of Scurvy Hall Lane.

The collision involved a red Ford Focus, an orange BMW Z4 and a brown Honda Jazz.

A woman aged in her 70s driving the Focus had to be released from her vehicle by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and was taken by ambulance to Broomfield Hospital where she sadly later died.

The woman driver of the BMW was also taken to Broomfield Hospital by ambulance, treated and later released. The driver of the Jazz did not require medical treatment.

An ambulance spokesman said: "We sent two ambulance crews, an ambulance officer, two hazardous area response teams (HART) and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

"We treated two patients at the scene who were both trapped at one point, one patient was a female in her late 30s who was treated for chest injuries from the airbags of her vehicle.

"The other patient was a female, she was in a critical condition following the incident.

"They were both taken to Broomfield Hospital for further treatment via land ambulances."

The A131 was closed for around six hours to enable the emergency services to deal with the incident and also carry out initial forensic collision investigation work.
