YOUNG people across Chelmsford have been recognised for their achievements with prestigious Jack Petchey awards.

Each youngster was presented with a medal at The Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards evening held at the Civic Theatre, Chelmsford.

Honoured pupils include St John Payne School pupil Edward Marshall, 16, who was nominated for his ministerial roles at his local church, and Megan Birch, 17, of Hylands School, who assists a Year Seven Geography class while working towards her A Levels.

Other award winners include Boswells School pupil Jasmine Desmond, 15, who donated her hair to be made into wigs for cancer sufferers and Moulsham High School pupil Amy Seymour, 16, who started and runs a performing arts club for her fellow pupils.

Chelmsford’s mayor Paul Hutchinson attended the event and helped present some of the awards.

He said: “There are many organisation helping young people to realise their potential but the Jack Petchey Foundation stands out as the premier one.

“Jack Petchey had to overcome many difficulties like the young people we have seen tonight.

“These young people are our future and you meet them, you realise that our future is very safe.”

The awards, established in 1999, recognise the positive contributions young people make.
