A Detective Chief Inspector from Essex Police is set to take on a half marathon challenge next weekend, raising much needed funds for a local hospice.

DCI Ronnie Egan is set to take on the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday, October 11, where she will be one of over 16,000 runners taking part in the central London run, starting and finishing at Hyde Park.

The route will involve passing London’s most iconic sights, including Buckingham Palace, Downing Street and Trafalgar Square.

DCI Egan will be running for The J’s Hospice in Great Baddow, who offer respite and hospice care for young adults suffering from life threatening and life limiting conditions across Essex.

DCI Egan said: "This will be a tough challenge for me – especially as I haven’t run this distance for many years!

"I’m honoured to be running the half marathon for this fantastic charity, who enable the young people they care for to live life to the very fullest.

"Knowing that I am helping such a worthwhile cause is the biggest motivation for getting past the finish line!”
