Essex County Council is launching a pilot shuttle bus between Chelmer Valley Park and Ride and Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

A single full size bus will run every half an hour between the two sites from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday with standard park and ride charges (£3 per adult, free to concessionary pass holders after 9.00am).

The pilot service will start in December and will run for 12 months.

Councillor Rodney Bass, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation said: “We are setting up this service as there is a demand for parking for patients, staff and visitors which cannot be fully met at the Broomfield Hospital site and we currently have some capacity at our Chelmer Valley park and ride car park.

“It is good to be working with our partners in the NHS to provide a service that will benefit the people of Essex and which will help Broomfield Hospital further update their travel plans.”

The pilot, which will cost just under £190,000, is being funded by Broomfield Hospital as part of their obligation to support travel services.

Cathy Geddes, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Mid Essex Hospitals Trust said: "Mid Essex hospitals welcomes the new shuttle pilot service and the convenience it will offer our patients and visitors.

"We look forward to it commencing."
