A POPULAR sushi bar has been given approval to open a branch in the High Street.

Yo!Sushi will open its second Essex branch in an empty High Street shop and once used by Stead and Simpson after applying to Chelmsford City Council for permission to change the use of the premises from retail to a restaurant.

The restaurant, which will back onto the new Bond Street development, will sell a wide variety of sushi in the chain’s signature coloured dishes and ‘sumo size’ bowls from its unique coveyor belt serving system.

Up to 20 jobs could be created at the new unit, owned by Aquila, which intends to open until 10pm.

The chain first opened in London Soho in 1997 and now has restaurants around the world.

The chain’s other branch is in Lakeside.
