A DAD and daughter drove 2,000 miles in a 20-year-old Volvo to raise money for a charity.

Chris Wickers, 49, and his daughter Lucy, 15, drove from Chelmsford to John O’Groats , then to Land’s End before heading for home to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity has supported several members of their family during their battles with cancer.

They completed the trip in the Volvo 480 Celebration, whic h was one of the last built.

Mr Wickers, of Highwood Road, Writtle, said: “I was kicked into action after my best friend lost his dad, but my mum also fought cancer and sadly my parents-in-law lost their fight.

“I’ve wanted to do it foralong time and it was fantastic to be able to do it in such an old car – although I did make sureIhad good breakdown cover just in case!”

Lucy added: “My friends thought we would never mak e such an epic trip in the old car, but we completed it easily–even though we had occasional disagreements about the choice of radio station!”

They hope to raise £3,000.
