A father has raised more than £3,300 in memory of his daughter who died aged seven.

Paul Green, of Chelmsford, took part in the Morrison's Great London Run in aid of East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) who supported his family when Katie died suddenly, aged seven, in 2008.

Katie’s family were cared for by the charity’s Milton hospice in the days following her death and through long-term bereavement support.

The 10K Great London Run, which took place in and around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, was a real challenge of Paul.

He was determined to complete the distance in memory of Katie and was spurred on by the generous donations made by friends and family before the big day.

Paul, 51, said: “The run was very hard work, I last ran 10K in 1994 so a long time ago, but I was kept going by the generous donations to EACH.

“Milton hospice cared for and supported us after the sudden death of our lovely daughter.

"They looked after Katie so beautifully in the last days before her funeral service and have held our hands through the difficult and dark times we have found ourselves in.

“I wanted to raise money in Katie's memory so that EACH can continue to support families both at times of grief and crisis as well as providing care and support to children throughout their lives.”

Since Katie’s death Paul has joined the Board of Trustees for EACH and plays an active part in the charity as part of this role.

Paul’s total raised so far for his challenge stands at £3,383.70.

Jo Colbert, EACH Partnerships Manager, said: “I would like to thank Paul for choosing to raise money in memory of Katie.

"He already generously gives his time to EACH as a trustee.

"The money raised will all go towards EACH’s vital work caring for children and young people with life-threatening conditions and supporting families like Katie’s.”
