TOP Olympic diver Rebecca Gallentree has written a letter to Chelmsford City Council asking it to save the diving boards she grew up on.
The letter from Miss Gallentree, of Chelmsford, which was read out by her mother Deborah at a full council meeting on July 15, said: “ I cannot stress enough how vital the diving boards at Riverside have been to my sporting success.
“Local diving facilities, like those at Riverside, form a foundation for larger, elite clubs to build upon.
“Without them, the people of Chelmsford and surrounding areas simply won’t have the opportunity to try diving and to fall in love with the sport like I did some 23 years ago on the diving boards of Riverside.
“There’s no telling how many talented divers could miss out on the opportunity to fulfil their full potential and to excel at something they love, if the diving boards of Chelmsford are taken away.
“I urge you to please save the diving boards and allowageneration to be inspired.”
