The main road through Danbury village is being improved as part of a scheme to upgrade the A414 corridor between Chelmsford and Maldon.

Highways engineers will resurface the section from Well Lane to the Eves Corner mini roundabout and install traffic signals at the busy Little Baddow Road intersection to improve both traffic flow and journey quality.

The work is scheduled to start on Sunday, August 2.

Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, councillor Rodney L Bass, said: “Improving the route into Danbury is a priority and a key element of the project aimed at transforming the whole southern section of the A414, which is a vital link between Chelmsford and Maldon.

“A recent carriageway survey has shown the road surface through the village is breaking up and it’s likely to deteriorate further, especially when the weather worsens during winter.

"The work involves full structural resurfacing, designed to last around 15 years.

“To minimise potential congestion, we are carrying out the work at night, and to ensure Danbury people are inconvenienced as little as possible, noisy operations will be halted at midnight.”

Planned for three to four weeks, the work is being carried out over 14 night time road closures to keep disruption for residents to a minimum.

The road will close between 8pm and 6am the following morning, with the heaviest and noisiest tasks finishing at midnight.

Signposted diversions will be in place directing motorists using the A414 from the A12 and Maldon, with access for residents being maintained at all times.
