A talented pupil from St Cedd’s School has been chosen to speak at the prestigious TEDx Event, held at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford.

It is the first time the event has invited a speaker from Primary School level.

The talks, which take place today, gives the chosen speakers the opportunity to share their own ideas.

It includes a variety of adult presenters and two students – one from Chelmsford County High School for Girls and one from King Edward VI Grammar School.

Maya Patel, aged 11, took part alongside a selection of fellow classmates in a TEDx Event at St Cedd’s School this week, where they performed their speeches to a large audience of teachers, children and TEDx licensee Mr Mark Davies.

It was at this event that Maya Patel wowed the audience with a brilliant speech, based on the event topic ‘Perception and Reality’.

Her presentation, which was based upon a personal challenge and triumph, included a video to highlight her achievement.

Mr Davies said: “It was brilliant how you included a personal story in your speech, and the inclusion of a video really drew in the audience.”

Others included ideas about politics, propaganda, creative stories and travel, with pupils as young as 7 also taking part and delivering speeches.
