YOUNGSTERS are getting ready to show off their talents in a new adaptation of Annie.

Pupils at the Academy Arts Chelmsford will be taking to the stage at the Chelmsford County High School Theatre next month with their energetic performance Annie Jnr, an adaptation of the classic musical.

With a cast of about 40 excited pupils aged seven to 17, principal Nina Jones believes the show will be a succcess.

Mrs Jones, 42, who once performed in London’s West End in shows such as Fame and Sweet Charity under her maiden name of Nina French, said: “This is the junior performance but still has all the good songs in it and I think it is going to be a great show.

“The pupils have really thrown themselves into it, even though this is all very new to them.

“We have a lot of very fresh talent which is exciting and it has been lovely teaching these kids, they are full of enthusiasm and are a very strong group.”

The show, which will be performed on June 13 and 14 at 2.30pm and 4.30pm, features a different leading cast on both days to give as many pupils as possible the chance to shine.
